Blanca Amorós
More about the artist
Blanca Amorós works with found materials — photographs from flea markets, antique dollhouse furniture, pages from obsolete encyclopaedias or old celebrity magazines — which she combines to construct new visual narratives.
In her canvases, the unusual and the everyday converge to reveal the ideologies underlying the images that make up our collective imagination. With a satirical eye, her works confront us with the absurdity of gender roles, ideals of beauty, and social expectations.
Her practice, however, transcends the canvas: Amorós actively incorporates the exhibition space, creating environments that envelop the viewer in an atmosphere that is as familiar as it is strange. In them, the artist invites us to question what seems familiar and to reconsider the visual narratives that shape the way we see (and are).
