As if it were a library expanded into space, Tom Cullberg’s work constructs a visual system where time, memory and experience are organised on shelves laden with meaning. Paintings, reliefs and carved wooden objects, books, landscapes, architecture, human figures and fragments of popular culture coexist as units of measurement of a life lived between places, stories and cross-references. Each element seems to function as a temporal marker, evoking both the everyday and the imagined, the personal and the collective.
Cullberg does not merely arrange objects: he establishes distances and relationships between them, making visible the tension between closeness and separation, between past and present. His compositions, dense but silent, refer to an analogue era in which knowledge and memory were physically accumulated. This accumulation raises an open question for the viewer: how is identity constructed from what we keep, remember and forget?
