Dorfner’s works act as a crystallisation of the present. We live in a society that teeters on the fine line between progress and tradition; his work brings together the past and the present in an exciting and often humorous way (it is hard not to find a Mickey Mouse tattoo on Andromache’s cheek amusing). There is a quiet rebellion in his works that manifests itself as an obvious product of the times. Dorfner chooses to subvert established forms through graffiti and the manipulation of photographs; this idea is inseparable from the images created by the Instagram generation. With the rise of social media, satire has shifted from the written word to images; a meme carries as much weight today as a Borowitz review does when criticising current events. Dorfner’s art centres on the spectrum of social satire, traversing opposing extremes with each new work.
