Stefan Peters is more than a contemporary landscape artist. He has developed his work in pursuit of the essence of painting. His pictorial research has led him to consider the brushstroke as the key element of painting, as seen in his series ‘Vistas’. This series is constructed using colour gradients on carefully smoothed wooden panels, on which Stefan Peters creates imaginary landscapes that oscillate between the utopian and the dystopian. There, the brushstroke, increasingly autonomous, interrupts the perfect gradient and suggests mountains, plains or forests shrouded in mist, illuminated by rays of sunlight that awaken the imagination. Some versions, presented as polyptychs, appear to be chromatically filtered, as if they were manipulated photographs. From certain perspectives, the world unfolds as if seen from the air: a mosaic of meadows and coastlines that invites silent contemplation, the intimate possibility of finding, for a moment, a private paradise.

In this ambiguous territory, where dream and wakefulness coexist, Peters not only creates images: he also embarks on a search for his own origin, for that germinal moment when the image begins to take shape. Far from being a mere contemporary landscape painter, Peters subjects painting to an exhaustive visual and conceptual analysis, questioning its relevance in the 21st century and revisiting the possibilities of landscape.
