About the artist

His work can be interpreted as a personal reconstruction, in an absurd key, of the social structures and individual behaviours of our contemporaneity.

Using recognisable symbols, especially from popular culture, Nannini creates divergent worlds in which the chain of connections of meanings is fragmented, altering the actions and relationships of the characters, to the point of changing the rules that govern them.

Through resources such as humour, naïve aesthetics, vibrant colours, mismatches in the drawing or constant dissonances, he seeks to produce a contrast between the message and the tone; a whole that dislocates the observer and exalts meaninglessness.

Riccardo Nannini (Italy, 1980) graduated in Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Milano. After a few years as an assistant to designer Andrea Incontri in 2010 he moved to Barcelona, revolutionising his career and his way of life.

He began to experiment with drawing and painting. The reflections that accompany these works, motivate his first artistic steps. The absurdity of human nature and the pressure of social interactions on the definition of identity are still among the central themes of his works.

Nannini immerses himself in the city’s underground scene and collaborates with various magazines, galleries and emerging brands.

In 2014 he presents his first solo exhibition, a story in 14 black and white canvases with a strong provocative charge. From then on, his style evolves and becomes more detailed. His pictorial search focuses on the conciliation between tradition and contemporaneity, mixing references ranging from Flemish painters to comics.

After almost ten years of study and practice, he has developed a personal language that moves freely between classical painting, folklore and pop culture, a style that has led him to exhibit in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the USA, Europe and Asia.
He currently lives and works between Barcelona and the Tuscan Maremma.
