Jo Hummel conducted a series of experiments in which the process determined the outcome and provided a safe setting for improvisation. A place where rational processes can coexist with intuition.
In this way, we explore the incredible naturalness of intuition and spontaneity. Its practical function is to simulate a simulation of decisions that allow us to capture and use sensations such as anxiety or serenity.
Through these contradictory emotional states of desirability, satisfaction, contentment, repulsion, etc., Hummel is able to tap into the state of human uncertainty that exists everywhere. The social structures that guide and interfere with our interests are our feelings and those we decide to keep a journal. Social class, religion, gender, and ethnicity influence whether we consider ourselves likable or undesirable.
The naturalness of collage is that the duration of your creation makes it constantly change. The artist must negotiate the reorganizing link, selecting and adjusting it repeatedly over long periods of time, and exploring the possibilities, including thousands of possible outcomes. In this way, the creative process is as important as the final result.
Jo Hummel worked in her studio on the Isle of Wight.
